APRIL 2018 NEWSLETTER
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear IFIP Members and Friends,
Warm Spring Greetings!
Over the last months IFIP has focused on building new programs for our members. We hope you will engage and take advantage of the collaborative and learning spaces IFIP is introducing to benefit our members. We are excited about our upcoming IFIP Learning Institute and the launch of IFIP’s Indigenous Women’s Funders Working Group, as well as, the upcoming launch of IFIP’s working group for funders focused on Territories and Indigenous Peoples.
Please save the date for our 2018 IFIP Global Conference in Santa Fe on October 7-10, 2018. The conference planning committee has been busy working on the conference theme. You will receive an announcement on the Call for Sessions Proposals in early April.
We hope you will find the April e-newsletter engaging and informative. This e-newsletter aims to highlight IFIP members and friends using innovative funding strategies and partnerships with Indigenous communities. While grantmaking is one of the funding tools most used by our members, a growing number of them are complementing or focusing on a variety of other funding approaches to support Indigenous sustainable and self-determined development.
IFIP’s commitment to self-determined development is steadfast. We envision an IFIP community that seeks to ensure and support Indigenous Peoples’ ability to preserve, evolve and transform social, political, economic and cultural systems in line with their priorities.
On this newsletter, you will read about a corporate values-based and flexible charity program, a social enterprise regenerative forestry initiative, a collaborative web-based mapping tool developed in partnership with Indigenous and academic communities, and about shared holder activism to support Indigenous causes and rights.
Sharing ways the donor community can expand the realm of funding possibilities and partnerships can spark ideas, invite collaboration, and lead to creative and effective approaches that support the self-determination of Indigenous Peoples.
We hope to see you at IFIP’s 2018 Global Conference, Santa Fe, New Mexico, October 7-10, 2018.
In solidarity,
Lourdes Inga
