Advancing Indigenous Midwifery through Policy, Research, and Advocacy

April 23 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Traditional Indigenous midwifery is essential to Indigenous Peoples’ health, cultural continuity, and community resilience, yet it remains widely under-recognized in national and international health policies. This event will bring together Indigenous midwives, advocates, and key international agencies to advance legal recognition, protect midwives’ rights, and promote culturally safe and autonomous care for Indigenous women and communities. Building on UNPFII recommendations from 2024–2025, the discussion will highlight the need for stronger policy frameworks, increased funding for Indigenous-led initiatives, and the integration of Indigenous midwifery into health systems through ethical guidance, intercultural training, and evidence-based advocacy grounded in Indigenous-led research.
