OUR STRATEGY

The International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP) is a global philanthropic network committed to championing the collective and individual rights of Indigenous Peoples.

IFIP advocates for the recognition, respect, and implementation of Indigenous Peoples' rights, particularly their right to self-determination, ensuring their freedom to determine their political status and pursue economic, social, and cultural development.

OUR CHALLENGE

Despite progress, Indigenous Peoples globally continue to combat discrimination, targeted violence, and challenges to their territories. They grapple with the persistent lack of recognition of their rights as distinct peoples, facing issues such as land dispossession, evictions, and the adverse impacts of climate change and conservation initiatives. Through its strategy, IFIP remains steadfast in addressing these issues and supporting Indigenous Peoples in navigating the enduring consequences of these adverse challenges.

Our Drivers

The fundamental drivers of change in IFIP’s strategy are establishing a Global Community and centering Indigenous Movements within the Philanthropy Ecosystem. Our strategy is rooted in the philosophy of philanthropy that is "by, for, and with" Indigenous Peoples, reflecting a commitment to inclusive, community-driven approaches that shift power dynamics and create sustainable change for Indigenous Peoples.

Pathways of Work

The Pathways of Our Work is our key instrument for accomplishing change through:

  • Establishing a Global Community of IFIP members and partners.
  • Establishing a transparent and accountable Philanthropy Ecosystem that advocates direct access of funding to Indigenous Peoples.
  • Shifting power, mobilizing resources and building partnerships that are “by, for, and with" Indigenous Peoples’ movements.
