As things stand, only 5% of global human rights funding goes to supporting Indigenous Peoples. Our work areas are designed to change this narrative by bridging the gap between funders and Indigenous Peoples. Only through a collective effort can we reshape existing funding practices to prioritize Indigenous voices. IFIP educates its members and allies to practice a new paradigm of giving based on “The Five R’s of Indigenous Philanthropy”—Respect, Reciprocity, Responsibility, Relationships and Redistribution. These five principles provide a guide for philanthropic organizations and individuals to engage with Indigenous communities in a respectful, equitable, and empowering manner.

Indigenous women. Funding to Indigenous Women represents 1.4% of the total giving to women and girls. As cultural pillars and community builders, Indigenous women play a pivotal role in their communities, yet they are often marginalized due to their ethnic and gender status. By focusing philanthropy on Indigenous women, they can have a voice in key decisions affecting their livelihoods and communities, breaking through barriers and creating inclusive community development. Indigenous Territories. With 80% of the Earth's remaining biodiversity located on Indigenous territories, Indigenous Peoples serve as custodians of our most vital ecosystems, playing a crucial role in safeguarding biodiversity for generations to come. The Indigenous Territories Working Group is a learning and exchange hub for members committed to supporting Indigenous Peoples in the stewardship of land and seascapes, self-determined resource management, and biodiversity preservation. The Working Group serves as a platform to deepen connections between the philanthropic sector and Indigenous communities in Australia, aiming to support and advance Indigenous Philanthropy while promoting collaborative growth within the Australian philanthropic landscape. Asia working group. The Asia Regional Working Group, established in response to insights from and subsequent regional dialogues, embodies the organization's commitment to promoting the rights and priorities of Indigenous Peoples across Asia.
