ASIA WORKING GROUP

IFIP first hosted the Asia-Pacific Indigenous Peoples Resource Sustainability and Funders Summit in 2011 In 2023, we hosted the Asia Learning and Exchange Meeting. The Asia Regional Working Group, established in response to insights from and subsequent regional dialogues, embodies the organization's commitment to promoting the rights and priorities of Indigenous Peoples across Asia. Serving as a platform for funders collaboration, the Working Group convenes regional meetings to identify opportunities and gaps in support for Indigenous initiatives. By leveraging the collective wisdom and resources of IFIP members, the Working Group aims to drive positive change and amplify Indigenous voices in philanthropy.

What we are doing

Drawing on the recommendations of the inaugural Summit and subsequent Asia Regional Dialogue in 2023, IFIP is facilitating a platform for members to collaborate and strategize. In response to insights gleaned from these gatherings, IFIP established the Asia Regional Working Group, underscoring its commitment to members to build partnerships with Indigenous communities.

While notable strides have been made in areas such as rights and organizational empowerment, there remains a critical need for enhanced support and attention to Indigenous Peoples' initiatives in the region. IFIP has expanded its engagement with Indigenous organizations and funders throughout Asia, convening regional meetings to identify opportunities, gaps, and avenues for collaboration.

The Asia Regional Working Group serves as a platform to leverage the collective wisdom and resources of IFIP’s global community, amplifying the impact of philanthropy in advancing Indigenous Peoples' rights and priorities, and ensuring that Indigenous voices are included in decision-making processes.
