Indigenous Peoples represent approximately 6.2% of the global population, steward 28% of the world’s land, and hold internationally recognized rights, yet remain disproportionately affected by extreme poverty and marginalization. Commissioned by International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP), this report addresses the longstanding lack of data on funding directed toward Indigenous Peoples and the extent to which it reaches Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs) and their communities directly, combining international aid data with insights from IFIP members and IPOs worldwide. By providing this evidence, the report aims to advance a more equitable philanthropic ecosystem grounded in the 5Rs of Indigenous Philanthropy: Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, Reciprocity, and Redistribution, while strengthening support for Indigenous self-determination. Its findings come at a critical time, as reductions in development assistance and restrictions on women’s rights, land rights, and advocacy threaten Indigenous-led work, while an ongoing OECD review presents an opportunity to establish a dedicated policy marker to improve the tracking and visibility of funding for Indigenous Peoples.
